As Boston prepares to mark the one-year anniversary of the tragic twin bombings that killed three people and wounded more than 260, an inspirational video that drums up support for this year’s marathon runners is being spread around the Web.

The video, driven by the slogan #WEWILLRUN, was produced by Boston filmmaker JJ Miller. Miller spoke to about his work.

“We started by pitching it to a client of ours as an advertising campaign,” Miller said. “The client eventually decided not to go with it; which it then sat on my desk for a little while and became a personal passion project of mine.”

The video features footage of runners around Boston’s iconic sites, mixed with audio from news reports after the bombings and an voiceover track telling Boston’s history and resiliency after the April 15 bombings.

“This is not a shoe commercial,” a voice says. “It’s a story about a city, a city that was built by rebels — people not afraid to fight for their freedom.”

Miller said the response to the video has been amazing.

“When we were co-writing the script, we really kind of tried to take the emotion of everyone we knew in the city,” Miller said. “I’ve never seen so many people gather together like they have this year.”

Miller said he and everyone who worked on the video plan to go to the Boston Marathon this year on April 21 to show their support. “I think this year is going to be stronger than ever.”
